Really miss SSH access has anyone had chance to try this on a tg589vac v2 https://www.crc.id.au/hacking-the-technicolor-tg799vac-and-unlocking-features/comment-page-2/

Hi. Telnet is disabled unfortunately, but SSH should still be accessible. The only problem is that you cannot do much with it unless you have access to the configuration file (which is encrypted). I have guides here which may help: http://nickdj.co.uk/internet-routers/router-guides/technicolor/hidden-features-uci-system.html

Hello, I’ve been having a lot of trouble with my router, the connection keeps dropping even though the WiFi signal keeps connected, also it is slower then it should be. This happens whether I am on the 2.4 or 5G connection, I’ve rang the isp and got the usual and been fobbed off. Sometime it is good for 5 minutes and sometimes an hour then all internet access will cut out for 1 to 2 minutes. I had my ads router in the same spot for 10 years and had no issues, do you think this is the isp or the router, also I have many devices around the house including TVs, sky boxes, laptops and iPads and this happens on them all. Thankyou

I have a TG589vac that I got from SSE and I now use with EE. I have been using Time of Day controls to restrict my kids access times. Today I discovered that the firmware has been updated to Jade 16.2 from the 15.4 that I had. This seems to have removed the Time of Day controls so I cannot change the device access times. Do you know any way to get the controls back? Can the firmware be downgraded to 15.4? Thanks for all the info available here.

Hi,

I've just got a TG589vac v2 router and when I view the device list it does not show the buttons needed to create time of day access rules etc.

Am I missing something or could this feature be disabled on the router by my provider?

Hi. Unfortunately most suppliers disabled the Time of Day (ToD) feature in newer firmware. It may become available in Firmware 17.* but getting hold of the firmware is near impossible. NickDJ

I've today received a tg589vac v2 from our ISP (Zen) and I'm amazed to find that - unlike every other router I've ever used - there seems to be no provision for giving names to connected devices. This makes it very hard to identify what is connected, since many devices appear with a generic name such as 'android' or (worse) no name at all! Not a deal-breaker, I suppose, but an extraordinary omission in my opinion.

Unfortunately Technicolor routers do not allow you to manually specify a device name. What it does instead is take the name from the device which is connecting. If using Windows you can change the device name and this will reflect on the router. (https://www.groovypost.com/howto/rename-windows-10-computer/). This can also be done on most TV and Smartphones, however, if you do not control those devices it will show the default set by the manufacturer.

Internet Speed and Download Speed is slow for me Laptop, Xbox One and Phone.

Say I was downloading a 10GB game on my xbox the download speed varies between 854kb and 1.2mb and takes me around 3days - 1week to download, including the download stopping because of "connection errors"

I've sent you an email with the best solution which should ensure you don't lose connection and you get the fastest download speed.
